Designed by filmmaker/actor Spike Lee’s son Jackson Lewis Lee, the Jordan Mars 270 continues the collaboration between Spike Lee and Michael Jordan that began in 1986 when Lee’s «Mars Blackmon» character (who originally appeared in his 1986 film, She’s Gotta Have It) starred in a series of ads for the Air Jordan Brand.

In fact, Spike Lee was the first-ever non-athlete to endorse the Air Jordan brand, and thanks to Jordan himself and Reggie Saunders, Director of Entertainment and Marketing for the Jordan brand, Jackson landed an internship that began his own collaboration with the basketball superstar.

Spike Lee originally announced the Jordan Mars 270 in June 2019 on his Instagram page. Spike and Jackson Lee have had a hand in designing Air Jordan sneakers since 2006, beginning with the Son Of Mars and Spizike designs.

Originally retailing for $160, the Jordan Mars 270 now typically ranges from $30 for kids and $200 for adults.

Air Jordan Mars 270: Hybrid of Vintage Designs

The Jordan Mars 270 recalls different eras of the Air Jordan silhouette. It’s a remix of classic designs, incorporating soft leather overlays from the AJ1, the AJ4’s detailed mesh grid positioned over the Swoosh design, premium eye-stays from the AJ5 and the AJ6’s easy-on, easy-off pull-tabs.

The nostalgic look of the Jordan Mars 270 pairs with a modern, comfort-minded design, which includes a large Max Air unit and springy foam for a cozy feel on the inside. The cushioning unit minimizes shock with every step, providing maximum heel and ankle reinforcement thanks to the firm Phylon midsole.

On the outside, a tall back heel pairs with a durable mixed-material upper and mesh material, and AJ1-inspired leather overlays make for a sturdy, easy-to-clean exterior. The translucent rubber outsole is built for long-lasting traction, completing the practical design of a shoe meant for the court and the street. The Jordan Mars 270 debuted in July 2019 in a classic «Fire Red» colorway (CD7070-100), with a white leather upper, a silver Swoosh behind the mesh, and fire red and black detailing. The shoe also features the Jumpman logo and a translucent outsole. More vivid colorways followed throughout the summer of 2019, including «Green Glow» (CD7070-003) with a glow-in-the-dark outsole, «Infrared 23 PSG (Paris Saint-Germain)» (CN2218-600), a white, purple and emerald «Grape» colorway (CD7070-135) and «Electric Green» (CT9132-001).

Early 2020 saw the release of a special «Paris Game 2020» colorway (CD7070-104) with red, white and blue detailing, a Summit White/Metallic Gold design (CV3046-100) to commemorate Michael Jordan’s gold-medal-winning run in the 1992 Summer Olympics and «London» (CV3042-001) in a mix of greys.

The low Jordan Mars 270 got its own series of colorways starting in Summer 2020, with a «Camo» colorway (CK1196-008) featuring Black nubuck across the upper, Metallic Silver applied to the Swoosh, University Red across the midsole, tongue and on the Jumpman logo.

Camouflage lands on the tongue and beneath the mesh netting on the side panel.

A «White/Jade/Orange combo followed (DB5919-181), along with «Black Gold» (CD7070-007) and a notebook-inspired design (CK2504-078) for kids in Black with accenting pops of Crimson, Blue and Volt.

The most collectible colorways hover around $200, with «Black Gold,» «Fire Red,» «White/Jade/Orange» and a low-top «Black Gold» (CK1196-007) at the top of the list.
